Death Valley but no snakes

Here we are at the entrance to Death Valley.  I sort of expected to see long stretches of flat sandy salt beds, but instead we were treated to a changing landscape once again.  The colours were stunning and we have not yet given up hope of getting a good snap from a moving car. Sigh.

This is a spider's nest that is Clancy's consolation prize for not seeing a snake yet.   The glint in the bottom of the nest is the spider.  Not sure how big.

This is called the Devil's cornfield.

More vistas.

Now this one I found interesting as the brown haze at the bottom looks like a dust storm or bit of pollution.  I first noticed it driving into Vegas but soon worked out that it is actually debris falling from the hills over the years.  Sort of like a glacier morass moving down the mountain, except it is everywhere like a skirt.

Mary posing prettily.

Clancy posing prettily.

A moving vista.

Owen's Lake.  It is mostly dry and salty but there is the odd bit of water in some places.  In fact, our motor camp has plenty of information for fishers.

Owen's Lake again with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background.  Sharp, craggy and still snowy.

Lone Pine is the home of the early cowboy movies and has an historic film museum which we are about to go see.  The RV park here is the best we have been in and comes to you highly recommended.  The owners have taken some trouble with tree plantings, pot plants, petting zoo and free coffee and muffins for breakfast (nice).

We're off to Twenty-Nine Palms after we see the museum.  We will be going through part of the Mojave Desert too; so that will be interesting.

The temperatures are expected to be 99 degrees in Vegas today and about 98 where we're going.  But it is dry heat and mostly ok although we have been using the AC.

Lots of blogging just to catch up, but hope you are still enjoying.
Hi Arthur.  Missing you lots.

Sounds & looks like you're having a grand time.
I've been to all those places but I still enjoyed the non hecktic pace of NZ. We've been to New Foundland Canada a couple times & it's an easy pace there too & we love it. Guess we just aren't big city kids.

By the way I've liked plenty more on your blog but have been a lazy commenter. It sounds like a fantastic voyage you're having...
